Meet Azariah & Emily. These two love serving Jesus. Emily is one of the nicest people to chat with and Azariah is outreach director. Pray for him as he takes up the leadership role of neighborhood prayer walks. On Sabbath afternoons a small group of loving, caring Christians make their way up and down the side streets of our surrounding neighbors and knock on doors asking if there is any needs that the Church may be able to meet. In conversation the small group always ends by asking if they can pray with the neighbors. This is an excellent way to introduce our selves to our fellow neighbors and to show them we love them. Building relationships in our community by treating our neighbors as we want to be treated.  Matthew 7:12

Meet Venus, Ida and the rest of the BackPack Bash Crew. Our community is full of people who want to help. Venus and Ida lead out our South East Back Pack Bash team and our Doherty High School Back Pack Bash team. We work to help other volunteers providing services to meet needs in our city. COS I Love You has been uniting Christians citywide for many years and we are pleased to be apart of their volunteer team. The Back Pack Bash is a huge deal on the south east side of Springs and we love to give back by bringing a portion of donated school supplies and backpacks to add to their storeroom of what becomes free school supplies for families in need.This usually happens in late summer between July and August.  Ask for Venus or Ida at the South Church. 

In Colorado Springs it can be very easy for our youth to get bored and find themselves in trouble from time to time. At South SDA we know firsthand how that can start. Simply with too much time on our hands. This is why we open up the gym for our young community members to come out and have fun exercising by running up and down the court playing 5v5 pickup games of basketball. We begin and end each service with prayer, words of encouraging and a small devotional thought from the Bible. The group usually consists of a blend between Church youth and non church youth. Adults are active in this outreach as well. Often times we may provide free fruit and water for them to be nourished with. This is a great opportunity to use our health message as a platform for sharing the Gospel. 

Meet Michael Armstrong, South Church’s Head Elder. With many years leading the youth as teacher and principal in various middle schools, including Christian SDA schools and public schools, Michael also has a fiery passion to teach Choir at Springs South SDA Church. He gives his Friday evenings leading out the choir by teaching them new songs to practice together for upcoming worship services. He is also simultaneously helping our members form friendships and bonds with one and another by doing this. Great place to make connection! 

Meet Pastor Lucas Lujan and Asbury Lujan. They have a burning fire to meet new people who are seeking a change in lifestyle. Personal Bible studies is what led them to know Jesus personally and because of that they know the impact it has on the seeker. Here are a few words from the pastor,  “We have been giving one on one and/ or small group Bible Studies for a few years now to those who are new to the Bible in our community. Un-churched and fresh canvases are our favorite people to work with in teaching the Bible. We do believe it is a calling God gave us that we don’t want to turn away from.”

Meet Jordan, a down to earth lady who has a calling on her to make our people more aware of the signs of bad mental health among women and youth. She deals with the small group style class by being transparent with her own past battles and relating with the women who are currently battling it today. Bad mental health is very much real in our community today and the reality is a support group is a major step forward in the healing process. We are grateful that Joran equips our ladies with the tools they need to have the victory in these day to day battles. Meet Donna Bohannon. After giving her life to traveling the world with her late husband Pastor Jack Bohannon and ministering to the needs of many people who didn’t know Jesus while simultaneously raising her family she has settled down at the South Church to serve God with her many musical talents. She currently organizes all worship music for the worship services at Springs South Church. If you’re curious about music and worship, come speak to Donna in the Chapel on Sabbath mornings at SAA.
